When to grow spinach from seeds?
The growing season of spinach will depend on the weather, specifically:
-
If in the South the weather is sunny, spinach can be grown all year round.
-
If in other regions, then you should plant in warm weather, with a lot of sunshine, it will be more favorable.
The process of growing spinach with seeds is simple, anyone can do it
Currently, the way to grow spinach by seeds is divided into 2 methods: Direct sowing or seed germination and then sowing.
Prepare
You need to prepare the following equipment for growing spinach, including:
-
Apricot seeds
-
Thin cloth towels
-
Land
-
Containers such as plant pots, styrofoam boxes, plastic boxes or trays
-
Planting shovel
-
Organic fertilizer
-
Straw (optional)
Steps to take
If direct seeding, follow these steps:
-
Get enough seeds to sow
-
Then proceed to mix the soil and pour the soil into the pot. Land for planting can be used in the garden or purchased clean land at the store. Spread the soil evenly into the pot. The amount of soil poured should be about 6cm from the pot surface.
-
Sprinkle a thin layer of organic fertilizer evenly on the surface. Manure that can be used includes cow manure, chicken manure or goat manure. Fertilizers should be composted or purchased in bags that have been treated.
-
You mix the top layer of manure and the soil below. Then spread the mixture again to make it even.
-
Water this potting mix evenly.
-
Sow the seeds in the soil layer so that each seed is about 10cm apart.
-
You can cover the top with a thin layer of straw or skip this step if you don’t have straw available.
-
After sowing the seeds, water them again to make them evenly wet.
With the method of germinating and then sowing, the seeds will germinate faster and the plants will grow more evenly. Here are the steps to do it:
-
Soak the seeds in water mixed with the recipe of 3 parts boiling water and 2 parts cold water. The time to soak the seeds is from 5 to 6 hours.
-
Next, you incubate the seeds with a wet towel. Pour the soaked seeds into the towel and fold the towel and dip the towel in the water to wet it evenly. Then, squeeze the towel to remove the water so that the amount of water in the towel is just enough damp.
-
Place the towel in an airtight plastic container to incubate. Please note that you should place the plastic box indoors, in a cool place and out of direct sunlight. Do not place in an air-conditioned room because it will take a long time for the seeds to germinate.
-
Drain the dirty water once a day to avoid mildew. However, you need to keep the towel just enough damp, not too much water. Then, leave the sealed plastic box for further incubation.
-
Usually after 4 days the seeds will germinate. At this point, you should choose the seeds that germinate first to sow. The remaining seeds need to repeat the above steps to continue incubation.
-
You can use a wet towel or soaked paper to cover the sprouted seeds to avoid drying out the seeds.
-
Finally, mix the soil and plant the seeds. Make a hole not too deep with your index finger to put the germinated seeds in and cover with soil and then continue with the rest of the steps similar to direct seeding.
Finished Product
-
With direct seeding method, seeds will germinate after about 7-10 days. For the pre-seeding method, the seeds will germinate after 4-5 days.
-
10 days after sowing, the coriander plant will gradually appear developing seedlings.
How to care for spinach grown by seeds
When the coriander plant is about 25 days old, you should cut the top of the tree. The cutting position starts from the 3rd or 4th true leaf and up. After cutting the tops, spread a thin layer of organic fertilizer on the surface and water.
-
After a short time, the tree will continue to produce new tops and can be harvested again.
-
When cutting the top for the second time, you should cut leaves 3, 4 and cut off the cotyledons so that the stems of spinach will develop stronger leaf tips.
-
After each harvest, continue to apply a thin layer of organic fertilizer on the surface and water. New tops can be collected or continued.
Notes when sowing raspberries by seeds
-
When growing vegetables in the rainy season with high humidity, the plant is very common with crab’s eye disease, also known as brown spot disease. The cure is to mix hot and cold water in a 1:1 ratio.
-
For the unused amount of skunk seeds, you should seal it. Then put the package of seeds in the refrigerator to preserve the seeds for a longer time.
-
Spinach likes light, does not like intense sunlight. If the sun is hot, you should use a sunshade net.
-
Water to keep the seeds moist to germinate 1-2 times a day in the early morning or late afternoon depending on weather conditions. Do not let the soil dry out, the seeds will be difficult to germinate. In case it is not sunny, the soil is still moist and it rains, there is no need to irrigate.
-
If you accidentally sow the seeds too thick, you need to separate the plants for good growth. With seeds that are sown sparsely and at a reasonable density, there is no need to split the plant. The tree should be removed in the cool of the afternoon. Trees after separation should be kept in the cool or use a net away from the sun for 3-4 days for the tree to recover.
